EDBRC – Senior Competitive Program
Be part of a world-class Senior crew.
The Senior Competitive Program — also known as EDBRC Tsunami — is a highly competitive program with strong placements and results in races on both national and world stages.
In July 2018, Tsunami sent two crews (Mixed and Open) to the 11th IDBF Club Crew World Championships (CCWC) in Szeged, Hungary. Both crews proudly finished in the top ten in each division. The team previously won bronze in the 2K Race at the 10th IDBF CCWC in Adelaide, Australia in April 2016. In 2022, the Senior Women’s Boat brought home two silver medals and one bronze medal in Sarasota, Florida during the 13th IDBF CCWC.
Being a senior team, we are recruiting male and female paddlers 38+ yrs old who are interested in working towards racing at national and international events. We practice three times per week for eleven months of the year (Nov – Sept). If this appeals to you, please contact Lauria MacDougall (contact information below). Everyone is welcome to drop in for a trial session.
Club membership must be purchased prior to joining the Senior Competitive Program. The regular cost is $300 per year, or $50 per month. A waiver must be signed prior to paddling.
Festival costs are additional.
- Paddles and PFDs are available for use at the club. We recommend paddlers bring a water bottle, change of clothes, sunscreen, and weather-appropriate clothing.
- Practices are held at the EDBRC Clubhouse next to Dawson Park.
- Street parking and parking at Dawson Park is free. Please be mindful as it is a residential neighbourhood.
- The Edmonton Dragon Boat Racing Club is a 17 minute walk from the Stadium LRT Station and a 25 minute walk from Churchill LRT Station. Bus service runs closer to the club; please check transit schedules for more information.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 7:00-8:00 pm, Sunday 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Practices are four times per week.
In the spring-summer-autumn, practices are on the river, water-level and weather permitting.
In the winter season, practice is indoors on paddler ERGs and, weather permitting, occasional outdoor fitness.
EDBRC Senior Competitive is a competitive mixed crew and invites other paddlers to join them for workouts. However, competitive training tends to be more intense so we caution that paddlers wishing to join us have a certain level of fitness to minimize the risk of injury.
